Holiday light shows are a great way to experience the sights and the sounds of the season without experiencing the frigid temperatures. You can find light shows close to Geno’s (your favorite South Philly cheesesteak) and throughout the city. We put together a list of some of our favorite, classic light shows in Philadelphia.
The Macy’s Christmas Light Show – A Philadelphia holiday tradition since 1956, The Macy’s Christmas Light Show at Macy’s in Center City is a truly beautiful, immersive experience. The Wanamaker Organ Concert of festive music is a perfect match for the light show of 100,000 bulbs creating holiday images. Shows typically occur daily at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m.
For additional fun, check out the inside of the store. For two decades, the third floor of the Macy’s Center City location turns into “Dickens Village” inspired by A Christmas Carol. Hundreds of animated figures reenact famous moments from the story.
The Comcast Holiday Spectacular – The Comcast Holiday Spectacular is another staple of Philadelphia holiday tradition. On the Comcast Experience video wall, a 15-minute video sends visitors on a holiday journey through classic songs such as Carol of the Bells, Jingle Bell Rock, and The 12 Days of Christmas. The Comcast Experience is a 83.3 feet wide by 25.4 feet high, 2,100 square-foot video wall.
Franklin Square Holiday Festival & Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show – Franklin Square has transformed into a holiday haven for all ages. Admission to the festival is free, and the Electrical Spectacle light show is the main event. The show features 50,000 lights accompanied by a holiday soundtrack and a 12-foot tall kite to celebrate Benjamin Franklin’s kite-and-lightning experiment. Visitors can shop and take part in daily themed events. The festival runs until December 31.
