Hey everyone! We’re back with another batch of updates, this time its for a few summer holidays and events that are going to be happening around the city during the summer. We’re always pumped when summer comes around. There’s something about the warmer weather, entertainment activities popping up, you name it, that makes us appreciate the season and all of the opportunities it provides to spend time with friends and loved ones.

With Father’s Day, Juneteenth, and a few summer highlights already on the agenda, we wanted to take the time to discuss each in addition to some of our plans as summer gets started.

Father’s Day

Sunday, June 18th is Father’s Day, which is always a great time to show our dear ol’ dads and father figures how much they mean to us. We know that a lot of people within our Philly community are wondering what to get the man who has everything this year. While socks, ties, and tools are always common gifts for dad, consider a cheesesteak from Geno’s or even a gift card to show that you care. We know more than a few dads who can’t go long without a good south Philly cheesesteak from your favorite shop.

Juneteenth

Many may not know the specifics of Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday just a couple years ago in 2021, but it is really a holiday that celebrates how far our great country has come since its inception. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans signed into law on June 19, 1865.Back when, celebrations were held where participants would play baseball, fish, go to rodeos, and enjoy their day and, today, many celebrate the day with cookouts, reunions, picnics, parties, and festivals. There will be numerous celebrations held in the greater Philadelphia area on the weekend of Juneteenth this year such as the Juneteenth Wine & Arts Festival at Cherry Street Pier, a mural unveiling and dedication at the Germantown ArtHaus, and more. If you would like to learn more about what Juneteenth means to our communities, stop by at one of these celebrations and show love!

School’s Out for Summer!

WaWa Welcome America 2023 is on the Way!

WaWa Welcome America brings an incredible variety of entertainment to Philadelphia, and this year is no exception. WaWa Welcome America Festival promises 16 days of free fun and educational opportunities across the city with food, culture, music, and fun standing out as some of the highlights. The event is due to kick off with a Juneteenth block party that concludes with a July 4th with a concert featuring Ludacris and Demi Lovato as headliners! Look out for some of the free activities that will take place in the city during the 16 day span such as free museum days at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Wagner Free Institute of Science, The Print Center, and a number of other historical and cultural institutions.
